Alleluia! We are open again for Mass

Following the recent easing of restrictions Churches are allowed to welcome people back to Mass and other religious services. Where churches are large enough more than one pod can be created with a maximum of fifty people in each pod. The church in Rathdowney can accommodate two pods, one of fifty and a smaller one of thirty. This means that we can welcome up to eighty people at each Mass. The Parish Pastoral Council has decided that, because of this increased capacity and the increasing number of people vaccinated, we can welcome people to Mass without the need to reserve a place in advance as we had done last year. We will still divide the parish into two halves of the alphabet ie on the weekend of 15th/16th of May all parishioners with the surnames from A to M are welcome to come to either Saturday night or Sunday Mass. The following weekend it will be surnames N to Z. I stress again that there will be no need to book. Those who have anniversaries booked for a particular mass will be welcome irrespective of surname.

We will be welcoming people back to Daily Mass from Tuesday next 11th of May. I would like to encourage parishioners to alternatively consider one of the weekday masses as their weekly observance but of course you are welcome to come whenever and as often as you choose.

The Parish Pastoral Council is also exploring the possibility of having a ‘Drive In’ Mass once a week. This will most likely be in the Carpark of Errill Church on a Friday evening. A final decision about that will be announced next weekend.

I look forward to welcoming congregations back to Mass and I ask you to cooperate fully with the safety measures in place ie Please wear a mask in church, sanitise hands on arrival and departure. Follow the guidance of the Ushers inside the church etc. Please use the entire church and don’t simply gravitate towards the back or the seat you always sat in!
